Services

Find out which service is right for you

Please check out the list below for more information about the services I provide. Your needs may not fit neatly into the categories below, so feel free to mention a combination of services in your query. If there is anything you need help with in the realm of publishing/academic writing which is not listed below, feel free to mention it as well and I can either provide you with a bespoke service, or refer you to some of my other excellent colleagues.

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing is a big-picture comprehensive review of your manuscript focusing on coherence, plot development, structure, characterisation, themes, audience, genre, emotional impact, and pacing. After a meticulous read of your work, a developmental edit will outline the strengths and weaknesses of your writing to get the manuscript ready for copyediting/line editing, or publication. This service will benefit any and all authors, but is an especially crucial step for first time writers.

This is for you if…

  • You have written a manuscript (or the majority of it)
  • You want feedback on the content of your work as well as the quality of your writing
  • You want to discuss the development of your work going forward, and work closely on the manuscript together

You will get (depending on your specific needs):

  • Consultation email or call
  • A highly detailed editorial letter
  • Marked manuscript
  • Discussion calls
  • Second read and feedback

Every manuscript and author has unique needs, and rates will vary accordingly. When querying, be sure to mention the specific services you are after. I’m happy to provide you with a sample edit (cirka 1000 words, which will also help me assess your needs) and an approximate rate. Thereafter we can discuss either over email or call what bespoke service you would like, and the precise cost of those services. If you have a very specific limited budget, I will do my best to make sure we tailor the service accordingly so that you get the most out of the resources available to you.

Line Editing

Line editing is a sentence and paragraph level edit (you can think of it as a micro-level edit) which focuses on writing clarity, style, word choice, and overall strengthening your prose writing. This service is perfect for those who have been through (or can be combined with) a developmental edit, and feel confident about their overall story structure. Keep in mind that while there may be some proofreading involved, it is not primarily a proofreading service.

This is for you if…

  • You have a finished manuscript (which you think is nearly publication ready)
  • You want to improve your writing rather than discuss content or structure

You will get (depending on your specific needs):

  • Consultation call or email
  • Marked manuscript
  • Second read

Academic editing is a combination of line-editing and proofreading. I offer feedback on the strength of the argument presented, structure, clarity, organisation, readability, and grammar/errors. Note, I can only offer subject-specific feedback on academic writing within the humanities or alternatively STEM articles meant for more public consumption. Anyone can benefit from this service, but it is particularly useful for those for whom English is their second language.

This is for you if….

  • You want to perfect your MA/PhD thesis before submission
  • You’d like feedback on an academic article/essay
  • You want to improve your adacemic writing skills

You will get (depending on your specific needs):

  • A written report
  • Marked manuscript
  • Consultation call/emails

AI-Policy

I do not use AI in any of my work. It would frankly defeat the purpose of the editing process, be a waste of your resources, and an unnecessary burden on the environment in this context.
